Following long days and nights of bargaining, petitions, button actions and delegations, the workers at the Hilton Rye Town ratified their new union contract on August 12.

8/1/2008 - Congratulations to the 150 workers at the Heldrich Center who joined the union today after an arbitrator declared that an "overwhelming majority" had chosen to join UNITE HERE! To win the union, the organizing committee at the Heldrich stood together with community allies to ensure that every worker's voice is represented. Great job everybody! Now we head into first contract bargaining where we continue to raise standards for hotel workers in Northern New Jersey.

June 12, 2008, Trenton:

UNITE HERE members from the New York New Jersey Regional Joint Board and the Metropolitan Trucking and Distribution Joint Board (North NJ) joined their brothers and sisters from Atlantic City Local 54 today to lobby elected officials to enact a state budget by the June 30th deadline.

By law, the state must adopt a new budget by the constitutional deadline of June 30th. If no budget is adopted, all essential government services must close. Since casinos are regulated by the government, casinos MUST also close during a government shut-down.
