For nearly a year, the union has been fighting to settle a grievance revolving around job descriptions at the Hilton in East Brunswick NJ. The issue was simple; the company refused to provide the duties of whatever job was being performed. As a result, the company would place members in different areas; “mix and merge” work duties— and often, not pay when more money was contractually required.

After 9 meetings, a 60 day contract extension, and several membership meeting— a new 3 year agreement was ratified between Local 1439, and Bemis Incorporated of Flemington New Jersey.

Rolling the union on...

Employees at the new Barneys Co-op stores in Austin, Texas and Los Angeles, California voted last month to become union shops and join the ranks of other Barneys workers in UNITE HERE. The Austin and L.A. workers are just the latest group to join the union: 12 Co-op stores are now represented by the union.

September 2006

Employees at the new Barneys Co-op store in Troy, Michigan, voted this month to become a union shop and join the ranks of other Barneys workers in UNITE HERE. The Troy workers are just the latest group to join the union: Nine Co-op stores are now represented by the union.
