Going to work often means leaving your rights at the door. Without a union, companies have the power to treat you disrespectfully, underpay you, or fire you for no reason at all. When it’s company against an individual we know who wins.

That’s why thousands of workers have joined the New York New Jersey Regional Joint Board. We’re a union of workers in hotels, retail and manufacturing who have joined together to win a living wage, fair health care benefits, and respect on the job. Our membership is diverse – we are men and women from over 20 different countries, and we speak more than 20 different languages. Over the last 5 years, we have doubled in size, adding more than 1,000 hotel workers in 2005 alone. We have a reputation as a strong and aggressive union – we fight hard to win the workplace and community changes that we need. 

Organizing a union in this country isn’t easy. But with dedicated leadership and a willingness to stand together, we have shown that we can overcome strong resistance from the boss.
